Just a Reminder--Our final call of the Quarter is...

On Monday June 29 at 4 pm PST--you should have received call info by now. (Because I am taking four college finals this week, I pushed the final call into the last few days of the month/quarter.)

I do hope you'll blog your feedback of this series and let me know how I can make it better for you. As promoted, the weekly conference calls for the 3rd Quarter will remain, primarily, on Wednesday's at noon.

Additionally, if you have recently lost income and are only a QTR 2 member but have not signed up for Quarter 3 because of that reason, please call Reggie at the office (800-444-6189). I would be happy to include you in the third quarter for calls and blogs (not to include the journal). Hopefully this will be an encouragement those who need it.

You are loved!

Final Week: Just a Sardine!

Well, after last week's call, I realized that our theme this quarter has been to learn quick "tag lines' to keep us focused on our shared goal: to save money, calories and time in 2009!

This week your assignment is add one more "tag" to the other three--MIN, DIA, and WAG. It is JAS (said like JAZZ but in a whisper.) Each time you come up to an anxious moment, an angry moment or a disappointment, I want you to ask yourself, "Is this JAS?" Is this "just a sardine?"

We each have so many "things" to deal with--health, finances, relationships, and other outside responsibilities. Don't fret or worry. Don't succumb to anxiety. Just as you used the MIN--Most Important Now--as a prayer, use JAS as a clarifier, a gut check, a quick-evaluation of the importance of whatever it is that is interrupting your life.

Ideally, as we learn to turn our "tags" into prayers, we will connect with God to overcome our fears, push aside the unimportant, ignore temptation to procrastinate, spend needlessly, or eat for comfort.

Our final phone call of Quarter 2 is scheduled for Monday, June 29 at 4 pm PST. Since it is on a different day, I thought, I'd open it open to gals who can never make the live call by scheduling it in the evening.

Next Quarter: Timeless and Trendy Tips to help you Save Money Calories and Time in 2009!

Talk to you soon...don't forget to ask yourself, "Is this JAS?"

Be encouraged,

Becky

Week Twelve: Time to Evaluate

We are coming to end of another quarter of saving money, calories, and time! How did you do?

Did you focus on the end from the beginning?

Did you shape your day by praying a simple prayer, "What is my most important now?"

Did you have any successes? I'd love to hear a few of your success stories this week--both on the blog and phone call. Be prepared to share one story (in less than one minute or in one paragraph) that will encourage our group.

Next quarter, we'll have over 90 in our group! If you haven't signed up, please be sure to do so or call Reggie. Note: Remember, the Q3 blogspot will have a new address which will be mailed to you at the end of June!

Be encouraged,

Week Eleven: What do you value?

If you have been sensing a trend, you're right. You've formulated your mission for each week. You've broken our lives into practical steps--a vision for each area of your life.

Now this week, we are going to focus on our values. Better yet, I'm going to ask you "Why" you want to save money, calories, and time.

So here is the format.

Why do I want to save money?
Why do I want to save calories?
Why do I want to save time?

Does it matter?

Let's discuss...

Week Ten: Your Week From a Balanced View

Last week, we discussed how to write a MISSION statement for yourself at the beginning of each week...and I gave you a few questions to help you formulate your mission. This week, I'd like you to consider our overall theme of "saving money, calories and time in 2009" and personalize a VISION statement for each area of your life--making it practical enough to impact your life THIS WEEK!

For example, here would be my VISION statement for this week:

PHYSICAL--continue to walk as my mode of exercise (saving money by not paying gym dues)and eat at home more than eating out (as overall, it is better for our budget.)

EMOTIONAL--continue to forgive quickly and pray often when I'm anxious or angry, rather than dwell on the negative and give more time to those in my life who want/request it (this week: my husband).

SPIRITUAL--talk to God and listen to God before starting any other project. This summer, I especially have to be very protective of the quietest morning hours of my day.

MENTAL--carefully detailing my day by praying about my MIN whenever I feel overwhelmed, and resisting (even refusing) procrastination, and defining my dreams by regularly reviewing projects that are not due now, but must be accomplished in order to cross the "finish line."

Are you with me? Consider these 4 areas and write a vision for your week--how will you save money, calories, and time in each of these areas: physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally?

Becky

Week Nine: Reviewing MIN, DIA, and WAG

By now--Week 9--you are hopefully thinking more clearly, accomplishing more projects, praying more effectively, and planning ahead more often.

As we head into the third month of SMCT Quarter 2, we turn a corner.

This Series began with us taking an entire month to focus on the "Most Important Now," asking ourselves simple questions that would keep us from wasting time (calories, and money)! Making your MIN a quick prayer is an even more effective and less stressful way o accomplish even the seemingly simple things in each day.

Then we took another month to strategically plan out our lives "One Day in Advance." Hopefully, you found a real rhythm to each day--one that is repeatable. (In other words, if you can repeat a productive Monday every Monday--it will become a favorite day! Ex: early QT, walking workout, and after-work grocery shopping.) Once you have a few productive days in each week, you are ready to think in terms of "Week at a Glance" planning.

MIN to DIA to WAG. If you and I can hold onto the MIN and commit to planning our schedule one DIA, then we can connect our minutes and days into very productive weeks.

This month we will stretch ourselves to think/look/plan our lives one WAG.

(Did you follow all of that? I promise our phone call will be a bit more inspirational!)

Be encouraged,

Becky

Week Eight: Clear the Clutter

As you continue to prayerfully consider how to plan one DAY IN ADVANCE, I want to encourage you to clear the clutter off your home or office desk, kitchen or bathroom counter, and out of your inbox or mailbox, closet, refrigerator, or car trunk!

When? This is the perfect weekend to take each of these areas and eliminate and concentrate!

How? In 10 minute chunks (increments) with a trash bag at your side, a marking pen in your hand, and a box for storage at your feet!

Why? To make your life easier, more efficient, and peaceful!

You can do it! In fact, let's do it together! Put your 10-15 minute increments on your calendar NOW for the weekend.

Week Seven: Don't Worry About Tomorrow, Plan for it!

W. Clement Stone said, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."

One of the key mis-steps we make in planning is to plan TOO LITTLE time for a project or task or errand to be completed. I want to encourage you to plan MORE time than you need to (1) drive to a location for the first time, (2) complete paperwork, (3) make an office visit, (4) park for an appointment, (5) or fix/repair/mend something. I've found that each of the listed "to-do's" often take longer than you expect. When you don't give yourself enough time, you end up either rushing or being late. Neither is acceptable IF you want to have self-control and/or peace in your demeanor.

This week, as you plan one "DAY IN ADVANCE," set aside more time than you need to do something tomorrow. And if you are early, have a book or project in your purse or car (even walking shoes) for spending your free time doing something you WANT to do!

Week Six: Pray before you Plan

This week, as we continue to focus on how to plan ahead ONE "Day in Advance," we'll continue to connect our spiritual lives with our physical lives: .

Many of you commented on the simple prayer I posted last week because it allowed you to turn a planning session into a God-inspired appointment with the King. Rather than look at your calendar (day/life) with dread or anxiety, consider your time, not only as a gift from God--but a way to serve Him, as well.

In your DIA planning (especially of the non-negotiables: healthy eating/regular exercise, quiet time, standing appointments, and transfer of incomplete tasks), consider breaking down each day (some of you have heard this before) into "8 Daily To-Do's."

Eat Right -- how, what, when, where, and why...are you going to eat tomorrow?
Exercise Regularly -- how, what, when, where, and why...are you going to exercise tomorrow?

Forgive and Give -- what do you have to give that someone else needs? Your apology, your generosity? Be specific!

Talk to God and Listen to God -- plan your time alone with God ONE DAY IN ADVANCE and put it on your calendar. (And when others ask if that time is free, apologize saying, "I'm sorry, I have a previous appointment!"

Detail your Day -- Even small chores/tasks when placed on your calendar (just one DIA) will get accomplished much sooner than if they remain a "good idea."

Define your Dreams -- You must put a deadline beside your dreams--the "grad" day, as well as deadlines for tasks along the way toward completing the dream!

If you will faithfully complete the 8 Daily To-Do's over the next 30 to 60 days YOU WILL see a change in your life...

Be encouraged,

Becky

Week Five: From One Touch to One Day in Advance

In April we focused ourselves on how to make our lives move more in sync with God's moment-by-moment plan for our lives by turning the question into a prayer, "Lord, What is my MIN (most important now)?"

Now we are going to turn our April focus of the "MIN" to the May focus of "DIA"..."Day In Advance" planning.

Hopefully, we've trained ourselves to resist those wandering, procrastinating moments with our "MIN" prayer. The "DIA" planning is equally motivating, but more strategic. It requires that we take a "look" at tomorrow--by assessing what we need to transfer from today (because we didn't accomplish it) AND what is already on our calendar and might need a bit of attention.

In our phone call, we'll get practical, but for our blog, I want to give you a prayer before you plan...

"Lord, go before and behind me.
Show me.
Remind me.
Warn me.
Lead me...in your ways. Amen."

Expect God to prompt your thinking as you plan for tomorrow. Let Him speak to you honestly about any ways (or tasks) that you might be avoiding. Ask Him to motivate you if you are weak, being stubborn, or lazy. (Somehow, when God reveals these things to us, we don't feel condemned but motivated to change--Amen?)

Becky

Week Four: One Touch

I have a secret for eliminating and concentrating, decluttering, and minimizing the chaos of lost things (keys, documents, etc.). It is the habit of touching things ONLY once.

"One Touch" your mail--how? Stand over the garbage can after you retrieve your mail and immediately throw out ads and junk. Then have a file for each week (all 52 weeks), placing the bills due in each week. Pay accordingly.

"One Touch" your email--how? Don't open it or mark it "unread" until you are ready/able to deal with it. Save or delete the information based on its importance.

"One Touch" your keys--how? Have a hook at your house AND in your purse. Don't ever set them down. Set them only on the hook or in your purse.

"One Touch" your documents--how? (This one is a lot tougher...) Have files that, at the very least, organize important papers alphabetically, by year, by child, or by project.

Of course all of these ideas require a disciplined mind and body--you can't allow yourself to fatigue!

Let's try to make our MIN the "ONE TOUCH" rule this week!

Becky

Week Three: The Prayer behind the Question

The "what" behind the Most Important Now is more than a question. When we turn, "What should I do next?" into a question for God, we quickly connect to God's motivation in and for our lives.

Asking God, "What is my MIN?" is, in essence, unceasing prayer and a step of humility. Asking for help from the One who knows YOU best, is a willing act of surrender. James 1:5 (NLT) says, "If need wisdom--if you want to know what God wants you to do--ask Him, and He will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking. But when you ask Him, be sure that you really expect Him to answer..." Once you get God's thoughts--and they will come into your mind and make sense; they'll sound like a parent or safe and strong advisor/counselor--make your move. Act immediately. This is the one-two punch that knocks out procrastination.

Your assignment this week, in addition to practicing MIN, is to ask yourself these three questions and journal your responses:

1. On a scale of 1-10, do I most often spend my money wisely or impulsively? Am I improving in this area? Do I tithe--give some or 10% of my earnings to God's work? Why or why not? How is God speaking to me about giving or saving money?
2. On a scale of 1-10, "Do I regularly or occasionally eat the wrong thing(s)?" Why or Why not? Does God give me any prompting to maintain self-control? If so, what is it? Do I heed, recognize or ignore God's promptings?
3. On a scale of 1-10, rate your overall time management: personal and/or workplace. Do you waste time--if so, explain HOW: Do you watch too much TV? Do you spend time on the internet needlessly? Do you have numerous projects that need your attention? If you answered yes to any of those questions, make a list of projects or organizational "to do's" and assign them a deadline for completion. Prioritize them. Begin, during this quarter, to complete them and "cross them off" your list.

I feel very passionate about this month's attack on procrastination--which at some level, we all struggle with--and I ask you to take seriously the MIN in your day. The result will be a deeper, more intimate and more effective prayer life! Woo hoo!

Becky

Week Two: Now!

The secret of the "MIN" (or the Most Important Now is NOW! From every angle, saying "Yes" or "No" now leads to instant action! (It also minimizes and disables the tendency to procrastinate!)

Spiritually--When you hear/think/feel that God is prompting you with or by His Holy Spirit, don't ignore Him (remember, the Holy Spirit is not an "it," He is the Holy person of God. Say "yes," NOW...don't hesitate, ignore or procrastinate.

Mentally--When you think, "I should," turn that sentence into "I will...now!"

Physically--When you hear yourself making excuses, say "NO" to yourself and "YES" to the commitment you made to walk, work out, or not eat something unhealthy.

Emotionally--When your feelings get involved with decisions, adding confusion or uncertainty--especially when it comes to saving money, calories, or time--you have to ask yourself, "What is my Most Important NOW!"

I am just departing on a plane...I look forward to speaking to you on Thursday 4/9 noon PST!

Week One: Here we go!!

Welcome new friends and old friends! The greatest strength of this group (for me, anyway) is that I know I am not alone--people are watching me, cheering for me, caring for me and expecting the best of me! Woo hoo for accountability!

It is my firm belief that if you (or I) really want to change, we have to be transparent and honest with others about (1) our struggles, and (2) our need for help. So please, make this blogspot a place to share your struggles and your successes.

As promoted, during this quarter's series, we will incorporate three "management" principles (over each of our three months together) into our hourly, daily, and weekly schedules in order to achieve our shared goals of "saving money, calories and time in 2009."

In April, we're going to start with the most basic principle of focusing on our MIN--Most Important Now. My hope is that those of us who are...

*master procrastinators will learn a new habit--and find joy in doing something RIGHT NOW, rather than later.
*poor time managers will become better at being on time--and make others happy that we were considerate.
*unprepared because we didn't plan ahead will discover simple tricks for organizing every area of our lives.

In May, we will focus on how to save more, burn more, and spend more wisely by incorporating "Day-in-Advance" planning into our lives 365 days a year! And June is the month we will put it all together by planning our lives one "Week-at-a-Glance."

I look forward to speaking with you at noon PST on Wednesday, April 1st--BUT PLEASE NOTE: next week, I'll be on an airplane on Wednesday, so our call and blogspot posting will be on Thursday, April 9 at noon PST. Please, please make a note of this change on your schedule. (The "upside" is that you have one more day to master the MIN!)

Be encouraged,

Becky
