Week One: Here we go!!

Welcome new friends and old friends! The greatest strength of this group (for me, anyway) is that I know I am not alone--people are watching me, cheering for me, caring for me and expecting the best of me! Woo hoo for accountability!

It is my firm belief that if you (or I) really want to change, we have to be transparent and honest with others about (1) our struggles, and (2) our need for help. So please, make this blogspot a place to share your struggles and your successes.

As promoted, during this quarter's series, we will incorporate three "management" principles (over each of our three months together) into our hourly, daily, and weekly schedules in order to achieve our shared goals of "saving money, calories and time in 2009."

In April, we're going to start with the most basic principle of focusing on our MIN--Most Important Now. My hope is that those of us who are...

*master procrastinators will learn a new habit--and find joy in doing something RIGHT NOW, rather than later.
*poor time managers will become better at being on time--and make others happy that we were considerate.
*unprepared because we didn't plan ahead will discover simple tricks for organizing every area of our lives.

In May, we will focus on how to save more, burn more, and spend more wisely by incorporating "Day-in-Advance" planning into our lives 365 days a year! And June is the month we will put it all together by planning our lives one "Week-at-a-Glance."

I look forward to speaking with you at noon PST on Wednesday, April 1st--BUT PLEASE NOTE: next week, I'll be on an airplane on Wednesday, so our call and blogspot posting will be on Thursday, April 9 at noon PST. Please, please make a note of this change on your schedule. (The "upside" is that you have one more day to master the MIN!)

Be encouraged,

Becky

  1. Becky,
The one area I struggle with the most is time managment. Although I intend each day to spend time with God, most days I don't manage to do it. The financial and physical areas of my life are not perfect, but in good shape. However, due to my poor time management, I often don't get all my workouts in, but manage to get some in. I pray that this quarter I can tackle saving time and really move forward in this area as I am continually late for everything, am a master procrastinator and feel stressed all the time due to my own poor time management. Thanks for all your good information and support.

  2. Becky,
My biggest struggle is time management. I do spend time talking to God throughout my day but I don't actually sit down & spend a block of time talking/listening to Him. Everyday I say I am going to but I get destracted & it just doesn't happen. I have a beautiful prayer room w/skylights in my home but rarely spend any time there. My time goal is to spend 30 mins a day in my prayer room talking/listening to God, reading my 365 day bible & writing in my prayer journal. I know if I could just get into this habit it would become routine for me. My money goal is to cut back on what I spend at the grocery. I make a weekly menue & grocery list with the things I need to prepare the menue, however, I allways leave the store with extra stuff that almost doubles my grocery bill. My third goal is to lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks. I have a nice treadmill but stopped using it when my husband & I went on vacation a year ago & just never got back to using it after vacation. Also, I eat too much candy & salty snacks in the evening after dinner. I really need you good advise & encouragement to help me overcome my weaknesses. Thanks Becky.

  3. Hi Becky and All: Well, interesting, the night before the phone call I had jotted down a bunch of long range goals. I had always daily planned, but this time I set to do some yearly things. I actually found a pattern where some goals and things were fitting into two year plans for myself (God willing and leading).
Still need to write it on a pretty page!
I've been getting my CYL Bible reading done, and working on my MIN. Something that was going on at church, actually smoothed out because I chose to pray immediately about something and God answered within maybe fifteen minutes. So,
the MIN works, as does one of your previous reminders (just do it now, as in emptying the dishwasher etc).
Hope to make this week's Thursday call, but may not make it back from church.
Have a blessed week, and joyous Easter.
    He is Risen!

  4. I am so encouraged by each of your honesty and humble postings.

So I want to encourage you with one more thought: you only have one day at a time. Each day is all you have...do today and now, rather than tomorrow or never.

    Talk to you soon.

    Becky

  5. I am also humbled, I have been struggling with the time change, and procrastination towards exercise. I have gained weight and would like to say I do not have a clue as to why but the truth is I have been emotionally eating, turning to the food god instead of to God. I am taking a lunch and spending time with God. So I need to go back to the 20min of planning, 20 min of praying and 20 min playing. I need success this next three months. My most important min is to take care of me.....Blessings. Diana
